
Dr Richard Hughes
Director of Information and Knowledge Exchange
Richard was appointed Director of Information and Knowledge Transfer in November 2007 after a period as Head of the BGS's Information Delivery programme, with responsibility for knowledge transfer and the exploitation of the BGS's digital data assets. Richard's background is in geosciences. He holds a BSc from the University of Wales, Cardiff, a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Cambridge, is a Chartered Geologist and a Geological Society Council member. During his career he has worked on regional geoscience projects in England, Wales and Scotland, and has lived and worked in the Ecuadorian Andes and Canada. Between 2001 and 2005 Richard worked on geoscience project development and management in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Africa.
