Science-based archaeology
The application and development of natural sciences in relation to archaeology
Isotope studies have wide application within archaeology; they can be used to look at human and animal migration and diet; to understand technological processes such as glass and metal production and distribution; monitor and trace ancient sources and causes of pollution and aid the understanding of communication routes and population diversity. The science based archaeology group at NIGL, lead by Dr. J. A. Evans, draws on resources from across the NIGL spectrum taking a multi-discipline approach to problems.
Applicants to NIGL should be aware that as a NERC facility our steering committee only supports Archaeology projects that fit the NERC Science Based Archaeology remit; for details see: http://www.nerc.ac.uk/research/
