Diagram of S-wave motionThis team runs the UK seismic network providing rapid access to data on seismic events to government, the private sector, academic researchers, the public and the media. Research is carried out in collaboration with a number of universities and current focus is on:

  • investigating the nature and distribution of earthquake activity and the underlying driving forces
  • imaging the structure of the Earth's crust and upper mantle beneath the British Isles
  • improving our understanding of seismic hazard both within the UK and internationally.
