Recent volcanoes

We are engaged in several projects that include the monitoring and study of volcanic activity.

The BGS is a member of a European-wide consortium aiming to provide ash, sulphur dioxide, radar and thermal data to volcano observatories and other users, including the Volcanic Ash and Advisory Centres, in the event of a major transborder volcanic event such as the Grímsvötn or Eyjafjallajökull ash clouds of 2010/11.
