BGS
carries out multidisciplinary survey and research work into the surface
and subsurface geology of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We produce 2D and 3D geological maps and models, provide information
and advice about all aspects of UK geology. Our work includes the
baseline survey that underpins most research into UK geology.
The Chief Geologists for England, Scotland and Wales collaborate to provide research programmes that cover the whole of onshore Great Britain. Their responsibilities are to:
- develop the earth science strategy for their area considering the environmental challenges and national and international scientific priorities.
- respond to the needs of the area for impartial geoscience data.
- provide excellent research outputs.
